Professional Qualifications

• Michael Silver obtained his LL.B from the University of Western Ontario and his LL.M from Cambridge University in England

• Michael Silver attended the London Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ Course at Oxford University obtained his Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration, and subsequently became a fellow of the Institute.

• Private mediation and arbitration practice: 1997-present

• He developed and taught Ryerson University’s Dispute Resolution Program, and is active with the ADR Section of the Canadian Bar Association. He has delivered many papers and written numerous articles on the subject.

• He has over 7 years of Bay Street litigation experience.

• One of two full-time mediators with the Ontario Court-annexed ADR Centre pilot project in Toronto, 1994 – 1997

• He is the author/co-author of three legal texts: “Solicitor-Client Privilege in Canadian Law” (Butterworths, 1993) “The Law of Confidential Communications in Canada” (Butterworths, 1996) “Mediation and Negotiation: Representing Your Clients” (Butterworths, 2001)

• Panel member, Hong Kong International Arbitration Center

• Fellow of the International Academy of Mediators

• Past panel member, York Street Insurance Dispute Resolvers

• Past roster arbitrator, Ontario Insurance Commission (FISCO)

• Assisted in drafting Mediators’ Code of Conduct for CBAO and adopted by Ontario’s Mandatory Mediation Program
